TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's basketball director of student-athlete development
Parfait Bitee has been selected to serve as an assistant coach for the Cameroon National Team.
Bitee will coach during the fourth FIBA window in the qualifying competition for the World Championships which will be held in China in 2019.
"It is an honor to be asked to coach a national team," Bitee said. "A chance like this is always exciting when you have the opportunity to represent your country as an athlete or a coach. I have spent many years playing with the Cameroon National team. Since I have retired from playing and have transitioned to coaching, the national team has asked me to help prepare the team for the competition."
Bitee played on the
Cameroonian men's national basketball team that won the silver medal at the
FIBA Africa Championship in 2007. Bitee has played professionally for seven years in five countries (Morocco, Qatar, France, Belgium and Angola).
The Cameroon training camp is in Istanbul, Turkey. Cameroon is in Group A and will open against Angola on Sept. 14. Cameroon finishes the tournament with games against Morocco (Sept. 15) and Egypt (Sept. 16). Other nations in Group A are Tunisia, Chad and Guinea.
"This is a great opportunity for Parfait to represent his country and continue to grow as a basketball staffer," Towson men's head basketball coach
Pat Skerry said.
