TOWSON, Md. – It may be another split weekend with a road game followed by a home game, but this time, the Towson University women's soccer team will keep things in the Greater Baltimore Area.
On Thursday night, the Tigers head down the road to Loyola University Maryland for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Ridley Athletic Complex, followed by a Sunday showdown at the Tiger Soccer Complex against UMBC at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
In its second Sunday home game in as many weeks, the Tigers fell 3-1 to Utah State in a morning matchup. After an 11 a.m. kickoff, the Tigers tied things up in the 67th minute as junior midfielder Justine Stoner logged her third goal of the season, converting a penalty kick after an Aggies handball in the box. Two late Utah State goals were the difference. Despite the outcome, the Tigers controlled much of the pace, particularly in the first half as Towson out-shot the Aggies 9-5 in the first 45 minutes.
The Series: Loyola (Loyola Leads 12-3-2)
With homefields separated by less then six miles, Thursday night's clash will be the 18th all-time between the Tigers and the Greyhounds. Loyola leads the all-time series 12-3-2, but the Tigers have won the last two meetings, both 1-0 counts in 2015 and 2017. Last season, the Tigers jumped out early on the Greyhounds as now-senior Evelyn Neidert potted what stood up as the game-winning goal in just the second minute at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
The Series: UMBC (Towson Leads 8-7-1)
Another local foe, the Tigers will meet the Retrievers of UMBC for the 19th time in program history. Last season, after a long lightning delay, the Tigers and Retrievers finally got the game in, playing to a 1-1 draw in Catonsville. The draw halted a six-game winning streak for the Tigers, who are unbeaten against UMBC since before the turn of the current century. UMBC won the first six matches, but Towson is 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings.
Scouting the Tigers (0-5-1)
Despite the overall record, the Tigers have fought hard through the first six games of the season. Four of the six matches have been decided by one goal or resulted in a tie (Longwood). Towson's offense is paced by junior midfielder Justine Stoner, who has netted a career-best three goals in the first six matches of the year. Stoner is tied for first in the CAA in goals scored with her trio. She is also tied for fourth in total points with six. In net, senior Megan Collins leads the CAA in total saves, turning aside 28 shots to date. She ranks first in the league in saves per game, stopping 4.67 shots per game.
Scouting the Greyhounds (2-3-0)
Loyola enters Thursday night's matchup with a 2-3-0 overall record. Last weekend before the Tigers played Utah State, the Greyhounds played 65 minutes of action before the game was called due to lightning in the area. Teams must play at least 70 minutes for a contest to be countable. On Sunday night, Loyola upended UMBC 2-1 at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds were shutout in their first three games, all road losses, but have limited opponents to just five total goals this season. Hannah Hoefs leads Loyola with four points on two goals, scoring both markers against UMBC on Sunday. Sumer Rahe has seen all 450 mintues in goal for Loyola, making 18 saves at a 78.3 percent rate. She has one clean sheet to her ledger this season as well.
Scouting the Retrievers (0-5-0)
UMBC is looking for its first win of the 2018 season and enters this weekend's matches with an 0-5-0 overall record. The Retrievers host Mount St. Mary's Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Retriever Soccer Park. Two Retrievers have scored this season as Christina Corbi and Erin Stevenson notched goals against American and Loyola, respectively. Leah Roth has seen 405 minutes of action in 2018, making 21 saves. Jade Wilkens has played in 45 minutes this season, making one save.
Three-Game Stand
Sunday's game kicks off a three-game homestand for the Towson women's soccer team. The Tigers will host Lehigh on Wednesday, Sept. 12 with a 4 p.m. showdown at the Tiger Soccer Complex. On Sunday, Sept. 16, Towson hosts Penn for a 2 p.m. clash at home. For the balance of the regular season, the Tigers will not play back-to-back home games.
Quasi Patriot Leaguers
Thursday's game will be the Tigers' second of three matches this season against members of the Patriot League. Last weekend, Towson was edged 1-0 on the road at Bucknell and will square off with Lehigh next week.
Blink of an Eye
Just two weekends of nonconference action adorn the Towson University women's soccer schedule as the Tigers take on two local foes this week before taking on Lehigh and Penn next week. Towson begins its 17th season in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) on Thursday, Sept. 20 with a trip to defending league champion Hofstra. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Hempstead, New York.
In the Community
Last week, a trio of Tigers volunteered their time with the Towson United U10 Maroon girls' soccer team. Seniors Danielle Gardner and Megan Collins, along with redshirt junior Sam Lotti, lent their insight to the next generation of soccer players.
