TOWSON, MD. – The 2019 season is underway for the Towson University gymnastics team as they travel to Boston, Mass. for the Little Boston Invitational Saturday, Jan. 12. The meet is inside the Hynes Convention Center and is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers will face Penn State and Temple.
"My expectation is that we go out there and do what we are capable of," said Head Coach
Vicki May. "We stay in our bubble and the girls trust themselves and go out and have fun."
This is the second year for the Tigers competing in the LBI Invitational, which is a different style meet then most. The meet has a different atmosphere to it being that it's not actually on a college campus.
After a long preseason, the excitement level for the season opener is high.
"Some nerves are to be expected but our preseason is so long that I think all of us the coaches as well as the girls are excited to get to competition," said May. "It's just so fun and it's what you do those 4-5 months of preseason for.
"While the season is grueling as far as a meet every single weekend, everyone is excited to get out there and start to compete."
The Tigers will rotate between vault, bars, beam and floor.
Tigers Last Time Out
The Tigers had a fourth-place finish at East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) championships.
Mary Elle Arduino became the second gymnast in the last three years to win an EAGL individual title and the first Tiger since 2002 to win on beam. She is the current school record holder on beam, and has made it to post-season competition the first three years, three years on beam and last year in the all-around.
Melissa Temkov and
Cortni Baker each earned All-Tournament Second Team honors after both finished 12th with a 9.850.
