TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's golf team will host its annual Towson Fall Invitational this weekend at the Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville. The 36-hole event begins Saturday, October 19 and concludes on Sunday, October 20.
Teams will play 18 holes each day. Tee times will run from 8:30 am – 9:51 am each day. Prospect Bay Country Club is a 6,624-yard par 72 course.
The Tigers will welcome Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hampton, Long Island, Manhattan, North Carolina A&T, Robert Morris, Youngstown State, to their annual tournament.
This will be Towson's final event of the fall. Towson enjoyed a strong performance earlier this week at the Elon Phoenix Invitational as it finished eighth overall (+1).
The Tigers were led by senior
Spencer Alexander, who shot 10 under par for the tournament. This will be a bittersweet weekend for Alexander as this will be the final time he will play at Prospect Bay as a collegiate athlete.
"I don't think it's set in yet that this will be my last home event but I'm excited for one last run, we have a chance to do something special and that keeps me motivated," Alexander said. "Last weekend was great considering I haven't been playing well leading up to Elon. I just tried my best to stay confident in the process and everything came together for those three days."
Also competing for the Tigers this weekend will be
Brad Riley, Jeremy Summerson, Jackson Courtney, Derek Gold, Hayden Rousselle and Justin Griffith.
This is the first time in recent memory that this event will be played in the fall. Back in April of this year, Towson finished in a three-way tie for first place with Youngstown State and Sacred Heart. However, based on the tiebreaker of lowest score of the fifth player, Youngstown State was first, Sacred Heart second and Towson third.
Fueled by under par rounds by Rousselle, Courtney, Alexander and Griffith, the Tigers shot a spring low round of 285 (-3).
A sports management major, Alexander has enjoyed a solid career for the Tigers in which he earned All-CAA honors after finishing third overall at the CAA Championships as a freshman. He shot a six-under 210 during the championships, which was tied for the sixth lowest three-round in CAA Championship history at the time.
Among some of his career highlights included a CAA Freshman of the Week honor and a hole-in-one the 181-yard, par-three 16th-hole at the Elon Phoenix Invitational as a sophomore and tying a career low a 66 (-6) in the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate.
"My goal is to continue playing golf or work within degree overseas," Alexander said. "I'm going to miss my teammates the most and I couldn't ask for a better group of guys each of my four years here."
