TOWSON, Md. - Saturday morning the Towson University cross country team is set to run in the Princeton Cross Country Invitational in New Jersey.
The Tigers will compete in the women's 6,000 meter race which begins at 10:45 a.m.
Last Time Out
Towson hasn't hit the course since Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh. Sophomore
Olivia Janke paced the Black and Gold with a time of 20 minutes, 55.9 seconds in the 6k race. The Tigers finished with an average team time of 22:59.
The Field of Competition
This weekend's race is the final regular-season competition, the next meet Towson will compete in will be the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Saturday, Nov. 2. At Princeton the Tigers will see conference opponents in Delaware and Hofstra. Also competing this weekend is Alabama, Binghamton, Columbia, UConn, Davidson, Duquesne, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, Loyola, Marist, Monmouth, Penn, Quinnipiac, Rider, Rutgers, UMass, UMass Lowell, UMBC and Wagner. Towson competed against 13 of these teams in the Paul Short Run two weeks ago.
Janke's 2019 Run
This season the Tigers have been steadily led by sophomore
Olivia Janke of Annapolis, Maryland. She received her first conference weekly accolade as the CAA Women's Runner of the Week for her efforts at the Br. Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions on Sept. 20. In each meet this season she has been the first Towson runner to cross the finish line, after winning the individual title at the Towson Invitational to open the season.
Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
