Gymnastics Inks Three for 2021 Season

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University gymnastics head coach Jay Ramirez has announced the signing of three student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).

"As a coaching staff, we are thrilled to welcome this group of 2020 athletes," said Ramirez.  "All three of these athletes have academic and athletic potential to take our program to the next level.  All of these athletes can contribute in the all-around."

Cassidy Stuart from Marvin, North Carolina and trains at Southeastern Gymnastics under the direction of Ludmilla Shobe and Sofia Managadze. Stuart was a Junior Olympic National Qualifier in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She was the 2018 vault champion at the Greensboro Gymnastics Invitational and the vault, beam and all-around champion at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational. Additionally, Stuart was the 2017 Region 8 champion on beam and runner-up in the all-around. She was the 2016 Region 8 runner-up on beam.

"Cassidy's triple series on beam is confident and consistent.  We are excited about her upgrade on floor and vault" said Ramirez.

Sarah Girot, a native from Fishers, Indiana, trains at DeVeau's School of Gymnastics under Don Gibson, Kim Gibson and Tom Strange. Girot was a 2019 Junior Olympic National Qualifier after taking the silver medal on bars and bronze medal on beam at the 2019 Region 5 Championships. She has posted top level 10 scores of 9.350 on vault, 9.675 on bars, 9.575 on beam, and 9.525 on floor.

"Sarah's huge dismount on bars as well as her clean routine on beam are going to be an asset to our line up," said Ramirez.

Grace Vaillancourt, a native from Hudson, New Hampshire, trains at Gymstreet USA in Wilmington, Massachusetts under Kristen Kempton and Carlos Castro. Vaillancourt was an Elite Compulsory Qualifier in 2017 and placed fourth all-around at the 2019 Massachusetts State Championships for level 10. At Eastern Nationals in 2018, she placed 10th in the all-around and fifth on vault.

"Grace's grace, no pun intended, on beam and floor are great to watch," said Ramirez.

The 2020 gymnastics team will host its annual Black and Gold intra-squad on Dec. 6 in SECU Arena before opening the season at Penn on Jan. 12 in Philadelphia. The Tigers first home meet will be Jan. 17 versus Cornell, William & Mary and West Chester.
