TOWSON, Md. – To close out 2019 and the 2010's decade, the Towson University women's basketball team is hosting Marshall.
The Herd comes to SECU Arena on Saturday, Dec. 21 for a 2 p.m. tipoff while the Tigers are celebrating the upcoming holidays. The game will be streamed on FloSports and TSN, live stats are also available. Links for following along are available on the women's basketball page of TowsonTigers.com.
HOLIDAY HOOPS AT SECU ARENA
Saturday afternoon join Towson for some family holiday fun, including photos with Doc dressed as Santa. There will be holiday themed prizes during in-game promotions and fans are encouraged to break out their holiday best. The Tigers' coaching staff is participating as well by wearing holiday attire.
LAST TIME OUT
Towson hasn't seen the court since Dec. 8 when the Tigers traveled to Rutgers. In Piscataway redshirt junior Kionna Jeter led the Tigers with 23 points and seven rebounds. Towson fell 67-53, Nukiya Mayo also finished in double figure scoring with 14 points.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Kionna Jeter leads the Tigers in scoring with 18.4 points per game and seven rebounds per game. Nukiya Mayo is also averaging more than 10 points a night with 14.3 on average, she is posting 6.7 boards per game. Two other Tigers are scoring double digits with Myasia Jones (10.6 ppg) and Q. Murray (10.1 ppg). Murray leads Towson in assists with 42. The Tigers enter the weekend with a 3-6 record through nonconference play. After facing the Herd, Towson will begin conference action but still has one non-CAA team to face in January.
SCOUTING THE HERD
Marshall comes to town with a 5-5 record, also coming off a loss to Rutgers. The Herd fell in Piscataway on Sunday, a 66-41 final. Leading the Marshall offense is freshman Savannah Wheeler with 13.4 points per game. Also averaging double figures is Kristen Mayo with 11.7 points per game. On the glass Khadaijia Brooks and Ashley Saintigene lead the way with six boards apiece each night. This seasosn the Herd have wins over Kentucky Christian, Norfolk State, Coppin State, Alderson Broaddus and Indiana State. Marshall has lost its last two games and also fell to Ohio, Morgan State and Evansville thus far. As a team the Herd is averaging 65.6 points per game with a season-high 89 in the season opener against Kentucky Christian.
THE MARSHALL SERIES
Saturday's matchup will be the third all-time meeting between Towson and Marshall in women's basketball, the series is tied 1-1. In 2018 the Tigers traveled to Huntington and came out with a 76-69 win which spurred a six-game win streak. Towson was led by Q. Murray with 20 points, Kionna Jeter with 18 and Nukiya Mayo with 16. At halftime the Tigers were down 39-27, a 12-point deficit, and returned to the court for the third quarter going on a 7-0 run. Murray and Mayo came in clutch to tie the game up before the quarter ended and Murray gave Towson the lead again with 1:02 to go before free throws and one layup sealed the win.

To end 2019 and start 2020, both the men's and women's basketball teams at Towson are running a ticket promotion. HOME… JUST NOT HOME ALONE
The Tigers are opening a five-game homestand on Saturday. Following New Year's, Towson opens conference play. On Friday, Jan. 3 Elon comes to town before William & Mary on Sunday, Jan. 5. The Tigers remain home to face their last nonconference opponent of the regular season with Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Towson's rival James Madison then comes to SECU on Sunday, Jan. 12.
