TOWSON, Md. – Week two for the Towson University softball team begins tomorrow, Feb. 16 as the Tigers travel to Conway, South Carolina for the Coastal Carolina Tournament.
Towson will open the tournament on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. as they face Eastern Kentucky. This will be a rematch for the Tigers from when they faced them in the final game of the 2018 season in the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC).
Last Time Out
The Tigers concluded the USC Upstate tournament last weekend, Feb. 8-9. Towson went for 2-2 for the weekend after falling to East Carolina 14-5 in the final game of the tournament.
Lindsey Toneygay had two-hits in the early game (USC Upstate) while
Nicole Stockinger hit her 27
th career home run as Towson fell 6-4.
Towson had five RBI's in the game against ECU. Stockinger,
Jaclyn Mounie,
Cassidy Meyer,
Sara Johnson and
Jess DaBreo gave the Tigers five runs and three hits in the top of the second.
Kendall Arcia gave the Tigers a hit in the fifth inning.
Scouting the Colonels 1-3 (0-0 OVC)
Eastern Kentucky fell 6-2 to Longwood University this past Sunday.
Sammi Miller led the way offensively for the Colonels, posting a team-best .563 batting average with one double and nine hits.
Destinee Lizzmore posted a .400 batting average with three home runs, two doubles, and five RBIs on the weekend.
Samantha Reynoso picked up the win on the mound for the Colonels. She posted a 3.50 ERA over six innings while striking out six.
Scouting the Chanticleers 5-1 (0-0 Sun Belt)
Coastal Carolina picked up their fifth win defeating Charleston Southern 6-2 this past Wednesday.
Courtney Dean led the Chants on the day going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. The starter, Ashley
Guillette had one strikeout on the day and pitched 4.0 innings.
Scouting the Herd 4-4 (0-0 CUSA)
Marshall defeated Portland State on Sunday in the USD Tournament 7-4.
The Herd recorded eight hits with freshmen Chloe Lee going 3-for-3 at the plate one run, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Ally Harrel walked a total of 11 times for the weekend and two hit by pitches making her on base percentage .773.
The starting pitcher for the Herd, senior Abigail Tolbert pitched 4.2 innings, allowed four runs, two earned and struck out four in earning the win.
Scouting the Blue Hose 2-0-1 (0-0 Big South)
Presbyterian began its season last weekend by hosting the Blue Hose Invitational. The Blue Hose finished the weekend 2-0-2, picking up a pair of wins over Morgan State and tying both Akron and East Tennessee State, as both games were called due to darkness.
In the season opener against Morgan State, Alyssa Batastini earned her first win as a Blue Hose with a complete game. The redshirt junior allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and collected three strikeouts in the 5-2 victory.
Courtney White hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, making the score 3-1, which would be more than enough for the win.
Tigers in the Community
- Towson is the Division I national champion of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester. Towson completed the most community service hours among all schools in the competition, including 75 different Division I departments and approximately 300 total programs across the country.
- In the fall, the Tigers volunteered in Dog Fest.
- Towson has also participated in Second Chance, an organization that helps remodel and renew homes.
