BOX SCORE SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Madison Wilson had three hits and Nicole Stockinger homered to lead the Towson University softball team to an 8-3 season-opening victory over Miami (Ohio) in the USC-Upstate tournament Friday morning.
How it Happened
· Stockinger, Julia Smith-Harrington and Kendall Arcia had two hits each for the Tigers.
· The Red Hawks struck first as Morgan Lott and Johniann Wall hit consecutive homers in the bottom of the first inning for an early 2-0 lead.
· Stockinger answered quickly with her first homer of the season and the 26th of her career in the second inning to bring the Tigers within one.
· Wilson's RBI single in the fourth inning scored Jessica Swistock and gave Towson the lead for good, 3-2.
· Both of Arcia's hits produced RBIs, including a fifth-inning triple that expanded the Tigers lead to 4-2.
· Smith-Harrington and Cassidy Meyer highlighted Towson's four run sixth inning with RBI doubles.
· Freshman Sara Johnson earned her first collegiate victory by striking out five in five innings of relief.
Inside the Numbers
· This was Lisa Costello's 695th career victory.
· Madison Wilson had her 33rd career multi-hit game and eighth career three-hit outing.
· The Tigers had eight runs on 13 hits with six RBI's.
· Towson had its leadoff runner reach in five of the seven innings.
