NEWARK, Del. – Tomorrow at 1 p.m. the Towson University women's basketball team will face two-seeded Drexel in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship game.
The title game will be played at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware and tickets are available at BlueHens.com. Towson students receive free admission with a student ID and tickets can also be purchased at the box office on site.
The game will be televised on NBC Sports Washington, NBC Sports Philly, SNY and College Sports Live. The Towson Sports Network will have an audio stream as well and links to follow along are available on the schedule page at TowsonTigers.com. Live stats will also be available.
The Drexel Series
This will be Towson's second time playing the Dragons in one week after hosting the team last Saturday in SECU Arena. The Tigers split the series with Drexel this season after defeating the Dragons in Philadelphia on the opening weekend of conference play this year. In neutral territory, Drexel leads the series 6-1.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson is coming off a dominant win over Hofstra in the semifinals, a 69-48 victory. With 22 points from
Nukiya Mayo the Tigers led by as much as 29 points to seal the win. Towson has won two of its last three games and enters the game averaging 67.8 points per game, led by
Kionna Jeter with 17.3 points per game. Together, Jeter and Mayo pair up for an average of 31.8 points per game. Mayo leads the Tigers in rebounds with 7.7 per game while
Q. Murray leads the team in assists with 4.4 per game.
Scouting the Dragons
Drexel enters the game after defeating No. 6 seed Northeastern in overtime late Friday afternoon. The Dragons are led by CAA Player of the Year Bailey Greenberg with 17.6 points per game. Greenberg also leads the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game while Aubree Brown leads in assists with 4.2 per game. Drexel averages 60.6 points per game while holding opponents to an average of 49.8 points per game, one of the best scoring defenses in the nation.
Recapping the CAA Championship
Towson entered the CAA Championship as the No. 4 seed, the highest the Tigers have ever had in the CAA. James Madison won the regular season championship and earned the No. 1 seed but fell to No. 9 seeded Hofstra in the quarterfinal on Wednesday afternoon. Hoftsra's Boogie Brozoski dropped 42 points in the Pride's first game of the week to set a CAA Tournament record and led the team to the biggest upset in CAA Women's Basketball Championship history. No. 3 seeded UNCW took on No. 6 seeded Northeastern Wednesday night, falling and returning to North Carolina as No. 2 seeded Drexel defeated No. 5 seeded William & Mary. Elon and the College of Charleston were eliminated in the first round of the tournament. Northeastern against Drexel is the only game to go into overtime so far this tournament.
