TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team hosts Coppin State in a non-conference doubleheader at the Tiger Softball Stadium at 1 p.m.
After playing nine games over five days, Towson enters the game with an 11-10 overall record.
The Tigers won two games in Florida over the weekend, defeating Long Island University and Providence. Towson has won three of its four home games last week sweeping UMBC and splitting with George Washington.
During its Florida trip,
Julia Smith-Harrington led Towson during the five-game tournament with a .412 batting average. Thies connected at a .385 clip.
Nicole Stockinger,
Jaclyn Mounie and
Madison Wilson all hit .333 during the tournament.
Through 20 games, Smith-Harrington leads Towson with a .420 batting average and eight doubles. She is tied with
Kendall Arcia for the team lead with 17 runs batted in. Stockinger leads Towson with five home runs. She also has 16 RBIs. Thies has a .341 batting average for Towson.
Coppin State dropped a doubleheader to Delaware, losing 1-0 in the first game and 5-2 in the second game. The Eagles are 2-8 overall. Their victories were over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and South Carolina State.
Coppin State's top performers through 10 games have been Chloe Ochoa (.444 batting average), Melaine Aquilera (.444) and Patricia Soria (.333). They all have eight hits each to lead the Eagles, who are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Ochoa has six RBIs to lead Coppin State.
The Tigers start CAA play this weekend by visiting UNCW in a three-game series. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday. Each day starts at 1 p.m.
