TOWSON, Md. – Two student-athletes from the Towson University women's gymnastics team qualified for the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships as individual performers, the NCAA announced Monday evening.
Mary Elle Arduino and
Emerson Hurst both qualified to go to the second round of session one for the balance beam. The two Tigers were selected to go the Ann Arbor NCAA Regional, which is hosted by the University of Michigan, competing on Friday, April 5
th for the session.
Hurst, a freshman, and Arduino, a senior, got in with their National Qualifying Scores (NQS) of 9.860 and 9.840, respectively.
Arduino has been to regionals all four years as a beam specialist. This will be Hurst's first time competing at regionals.
The top 36 teams based on NQS were selected for competition along with 16 individuals for each regional from non-qualifying programs. The committee named the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket, while teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Nine teams will compete at each of the four regional sites.
The team gathered in the Towson Center for the NCAA selection show, celebrating after the announcement of Arduino and Hurst qualifying for the regional.
