Baseball Returns to Virginia to Play at George Mason

The Matchup: Towson (3-18, 0-3 CAA) at George Mason (10-12, 0-3 A10)
When: Wednesday, March 27th – 3 p.m.
Where: Raymond H. "Hap" Spuhler Field – Fairfax, Va.
Series: George Mason leads 40-37-1
 
TOWSON, Md. –  Before a weekend road trip to Florida, the Towson University baseball team will head back to Virginia for a mid-week game against George Mason on Wednesday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
 
There will not be a live broadcast of the game, but live stats will be available.
 
Towson is looking to snap a six-game losing streak, coming off being swept in the Colonial Athletic Association opening weekend against UNC Wilmington to be 3-18 overall and 0-3 in its league.  George Mason also got swept in its first league weekend series, falling in three games at Saint Joseph's, to be 0-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and 10-12 overall.  This will be the first of two games between Towson and George Mason, with a game at Schuerholz Park set for April 10th.
 
In a closely contested all-time series, George Mason holds a narrow 40-37-1 lead over Towson.  The teams have played every year since 2003 as well as every year between 1981-2001.  The Patriots have won the last three games in the series.
 
Seils Earns CAA Pitcher of the Week
Josh Seils earned his first-ever CAA Pitcher of the Week honor on March 18th.  His award came after a stellar start vs. Fordham, picking up the win with eight scoreless innings and six strikeouts.
 
Stramara Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List
Senior Dean Stramara is one of 75 players nationally to be selected to the 2019 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List.
 
In 2018, he had the best ERA for Towson at 3.94 in 21 appearances, striking out 48 batters in 59.1 innings.
 
Towson Predicted to Finish 9th in the CAA Preseason Poll
In the coaches preseason poll, Towson was predicted to finish ninth in the CAA in 2019.  Towson got 13 points.
 
Elon is predicted to finish first with 57 points and four first-place votes, followed by a tie for second between UNC Wilmington and Northeastern.

Strong Home Weekend for Starters
The Towson starting rotation in the four-game home weekend from March 15-17 was stellar.  Josh Seils, Gavin Weyman, Kody Reeser and Oluwasayo Kintunde combined to go 2-0 with a 0.36 ERA in 25.1 innings, including 28 strikeouts against Cornell and Fordham.
 
Maryland, My Maryland
Towson sports 12 players from the home state of Maryland, coming from all areas of the region.
 
In addition, two freshmen, Trent Gast-Woodard and Nick Brown, each are from the home city of Baltimore.  Gast-Woodard and Brown each attended Archbishop Curley.
 
Scouting George Mason
George Mason is predicted to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 in the preseason coaches poll.
 
Head coach Bill Brown is in his 38th season at the helm of George Mason, amassing over 1,000 victories.
 
The team's top hitter is junior Logan Driscoll, hitting .341 with seven home runs and 21 RBI, also being 6-8 on stolen bases.  At first base is senior Tim Quinn with a .297 batting average, 19 walks and a pair of home runs.
 
Freshman right-hander Patrick Halligan is the expected starter, having a 1-2 record with an 11.48 ERA and nine strikeouts.  Junior righty James Beasley has come out of the bullpen 10 times for a 3.31 ERA and four saves while freshman right-hander Stuart Barrett has appeared nine times for a 4.22 ERA.
 
About Spuhler Field
Built in 1986, Spuhler Field serves as the home for George Mason baseball.  With an upgrade in 2003, the field has a Bermuda turf surface and grass sod.
