TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team will play its Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) home opener against James Madison at the Tiger Softball Stadium on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
This weekend will also highlight the 20th anniversary of the class of 1999. Kara Ieva and Chris Napora will be recognized during the first game of the doubleheader. The Tigers will also sign autographs for fans in attendance following Sunday's game.
The Tigers (14-14, 1-2 CAA) are coming off a mid-week doubleheader against George Mason on Wednesday. Nicole Stockinger hit her 33rd career home run during the first game as Towson fell 9-3. During the second game Towson had five hits but fell 1-0.
Stockinger leads the team in home runs this season with eight and RBI's (25). Riley Theis had her seventh multi-hit game against George Mason. Julia Smith-Harrington is 6-2 in the circle with three shutouts and an ERA of 1.93. Towson is third in the conference with triples (seven) and is second in the CAA in strikeouts (154).
Scouting the Dukes (20-6, 2-1 CAA)
James Madison, which is ranked 20th in the lastest USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Top 25 poll, defeated Marshall 8-5 on Wednesday. Sara Jubas is one of the top hitters for the Dukes with a .516 batting average. Kate Gordon and Megan Good are tied with 11 homeruns thus far, and Jubas leads the team in doubles (8). Gordon leads the teams in RBI's with 33. Alexander Odicci leads the Dukes on the mound with 10-2 record and a 2.34 ERA. She has 73 strikeouts.
Parking
For this weekend fans are asked to park in lot 21 on Saturday. Lot 20 will be available on Sunday's game.
