TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team dropped its Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) home opener to 20th-ranked James Madison Saturday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Stadium.
The Tigers fell 5-1 in the first game of the doubleheader before falling 4-0 in the second game.
In game one, the Tigers scored first in the third inning when Julia Jackson crossed the plate thanks to a JMU error. James Madison scored two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth to win the game.
Riley Thies and Jessica Swistock each had one hit for Towson. Sara Johnson pitched six innings and had five stirkeouts.
In game two, Breanna McDowell had one hit for the Tigers. The Dukes scored all four runs in the first two innings. Melissa Abrahamian pitched four innings for Towson and had two strikeouts.
Inside the Numbers
· This was Johnson's eighth game this season with five or more strikeouts.
· Johnson has 72 strikeouts in 14 appearances to lead the Tigers.
· Over the two games, Thies threw out three base stealers.
· All five of JMU's runs in the opening game were scored with two outs.
