Woodall, Goodrich and Sunday Selected in MLL Draft

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's only fitting that the number on team in college lacrosse had a player selected first overall at the 2019 Major League Lacrosse Draft, hosted Saturday night at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Towson University senior faceoff specialist Alex Woodall was the first overall draft pick as he was selected by the Ohio Machine. He was followed two picks later by classmate Zach Goodrich, who went third overall to the Boston Cannons. Brendan Sunday was selected 13th overall by the Atlanta Blaze. All three selections are co-captains along with classmate Jimmie Wilkerson.

Woodall, a Tewaaraton Watch List candidate, has dominated the faceoff area early in 2019, winning nearly 75 percent of his draws through the first third of the year. He has won 95 of his 129 draws through five games for the top-ranked Tigers, grabbing 67 ground balls along the way. Woodall has added two goals and three assists to date and is poised to become the program's all-time career leader in faceoff wins. He is currently third with 451, just 15 behind Matt Eckerl's second-place mark of 466.

One of the top players in the country, regardless of position, Goodrich was a First Team USILA All-American last season. The program's first-ever three-time captain, Goodrich has played in 56 career games as a defensive midfielder, causing 53 turnovers, including five this season. In transition, Goodrich has been a force with 16 career goals and adding two assists. Like Woodall, Goodrich is a Tewaaraton Watch List candidate. He is also a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.

Sunday has emerged as one Towson's top offensive threats this season. Through five games in 2019, Sunday has racked 17 goals and 11 assists for a career-best 28 points. He has multiple points in every game this season and is ranked in the top 10 nationally in points per game as he averages 5.8 points per game. This season, Sunday has already matched his 2018 goal output and nearly doubled his assist total with a potent Towson offense.
