TOWSON, Md. – Freshmen
Crystal Johnson and
Hayley Horvath set school records to highlight the Towson University women's track and field team's performance at its annual home meet, the Towson Invitational, Saturday at Unitas Stadium.
Johnson and Horvath were two of Towson's nine individual event winners. The Tigers also won the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 400-meter relays to easily win the team title with 219 points. Towson finished ahead of Morgan State (117 points) and Robert Morris (74).
Johnson won the 100-meter dash in 11.77 seconds. She was also a member of the winning 4 x 100-meter relay team with
Shamika Burton,
Arianna Waller and
Liz Reid that crossed the finish line in a season best time of 46.15. Also in the 100, Burton was second in a collegiate best time of 12.00 seconds.
Meanwhile, Horvath continues soaring to new heights as she cleared 4.05 meters (13-03.50) in the pole vault.

How It Happened Track Events
- Victoria Jones-Alleyne won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.96 seconds).
- Towson had three of the top of four finishes in the 100-meter hurdles as Helnsarah Penda was second (14.56) and Shelby Francis (14.62).
- Francis was the winner in the 400-meter hurdles in a collegiate best time of 1:01.50.
- In finishing seventh in the 400-meter hurdles, Deandra Francois ran a personal best time of 1:05.83.
- Francis was also a member of the winning 4 x 400-meter relay team with Liz Reid, Paige Keefer and Alexandria Kitchell (3:48.20).
- Reid was second in the 400-meter run (54.76) and Kitchell was fifth (57.83).
- Olivia Janke was victorious in the 1,500-meter run (4:39.31).
- Janke's effort was an all-time Towson top 10 performance.
- Abby Gauthier captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:42.69).
- Waller was sixth in the 200 in a time of 25.60 seconds.
How It Happened Field Events
- Samantha Ronald was third (3.55 meters/11-07.75), Gabrielle Gaygen was fourth (3.40/11-01.75) and Emily Corso was fifth (3.25/10-08.00) in the pole vault.
- Ronald and Corso enjoyed personal best clearances.
- Ani Boghossian-James and Starr Stover were the top finishers in the high jump.
- They each cleared1.62 meters (5-03.75). James was declared the event winner after a jump off.
- The Tigers behind Michella Obijiaku and Phontavia Sawyer claimed the first two spots in the shot put.
- Obijiaku won the shot put with a toss of 15.21 meters (49-11.00).
- Sawyer won the discus with a throw of 45.10 meters (147-11) and finished second in the shot put (15.02 meters/49-03.50).
- In finishing second in the hammer, Obijiaku threw it a personal best 54.66m (179-04).
- Also enjoying a personal best throw in the hammer was Georgia Coleman, who was third (52.31m/171-07).
- Taylor Giles was fourth in the hammer throw (50.93m/167-01) and fifth in the discus (40.86m/134-01).
- Naomi Roth was fifth in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 48.75m (159-11).
- Sydney Stith was third in the javelin (37.22m/122-01).
