Towson to Host Howard and Georgetown in Mid-Week Contests

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team enters the week with three non-conference games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, April 9 the Tigers will play a doubleheader against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent Howard University. All games will be played in the Towson Softball Stadium with the first game of the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 10 Towson will play a single game against Big East foe Georgetown. The start time for that game is slated for 1 p.m.

Towson (16-19, 3-6 CAA) won a weekend series against conference opponent Delaware. On Saturday the Tigers split with the Blue Hens after Sara Johnson had a career-high 12 strikeouts to help Towson win 6-0. In game two the Tigers fell 11-6. The hot hitting of senior Nicole Stockinger helped Towson win 6-4 after Stockinger hit two homers in the winning efforts.

On the leaderboard, Stockinger leads the team with a .387 batting average and has 10 home runs. She also leads the teams with runs batted in (31). Julia Smith-Harrington leads the teams in doubles (12) and has 27 RBI's.

On the mound for the Tigers, Johnson has an era of 3.14 with an 8-6 record. She leads the team with 93 strikeouts.

Scouting Howard (10-18, 3-1 MEAC)

The Bison defeated Bowie State 15-2 last Wednesday, April 3. After that win Howard currently has its most wins since 2016. Howard took an early lead in the first inning scoring seven runs and solidifying it with five more runs in the third inning.

Leading the Bison is freshman Kalita Dennis with a .464 batting average. She has 22 RBI's and is second on the team in doubles (8). Freshman Camille Navarro leads the team in doubles (11) and RBI's (24).

In the circle, Mackenzi Steele has an 8.71 ERA and leads the team with 60 strikeouts.

Scouting Georgetown (9-27, 2-6 Big East)

The Hoyas fell to DePaul on Sunday afternoon 12-4. Georgetown was led by freshman Cassie Henning who had a pair of hits, including a double and brought in two runs for the team.

Junior Noelle Holiday leads the way for the Hoyas with a .341 batting average and 27 RBI's. She also leads the team in doubles (9). Sarah Bennett has 20 RBI's and is tied with Holiday for home runs (7).

Anna Brooks Pacha leads the team in strikeouts (60) and has a 6.64 ERA with a 2-8 record on the mound.
