Abby Gauthier was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 2 Division I Women's Track And Field/Cross-Country First Team. The team that was announced Tuesday afternoon was selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Track/Cross Country Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
Gauthier advances to the Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.
Gauthier, a senior distance performer from Forked River, N.J. graduated last week.
Gauthier enjoyed a tremendous senior season to help Towson finish second at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships during the outdoor season. The second place finish at the ECAC championships was the best in program history for the Tigers, ranked fifth in the final two regular season United States Track and Field Cross-Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) weekly regional index.
This past outdoor season, Gauthier was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:05.85). She won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Towson Invitational (11:42.69). Showcasing her versatility, Gauthier was second in the 1,500-meter run at the Hopkins Loyola Invitational (4:51.34) and fourth at the Delaware Classic (4:59.79). She ran only 3,000 meter race of the outdoor season at the Maryland Invitational in which she finished 10th (11:00.47).
District 2 is comprised of Division I student-athletes from Washington, D.C., Delaware Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes outstanding student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
