TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team has ranked No. 12 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Preseason FCS Coaches' Poll, released on Monday.
Towson has ranked in the top-12 in each major preseason poll, including at No. 11 in the STATS FCS Top-25 released earlier.
The Tigers were predicted to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) preseason poll back in July after Towson was 7-5 last year, going 5-3 in the league to tie for third. Towson made the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2013.
Several players have been selected as preseason All-Americans, including quarterback
Tom Flacco and running back
Shane Simpson, who were each named to the Walter Payton Award preseason watch list. Wide receiver
Shane Leatherbury and kicker
Aidan O'Neill also earned preseason All-America recognition.
Five CAA teams are currently in the top-25, including James Madison, Maine, Elon and Delaware, with another pair, Stony Brook and New Hampshire, receiving votes. The poll is voted on by several FCS coaches across the country.
