TOWSON, Md. – Following the season opening victory at The Citadel, the Towson University football team has entered the top-9 of the national polls.
Towson stands at No. 8 in the STATS FCS Poll and No. 9 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS Top-25. The Tigers rose three spots in each poll from the preseason rankings.
This marks the first time Towson stands in the top-9 nationally since the opening week of 2014 and the first time during the regular season since 2013. Towson also earns a top-10 ranking for the second straight year, being at No. 10 in each poll on Oct. 22, 2018.
Towson came back to defeat The Citadel 28-21 on Saturday in Charleston to begin the season at 1-0, the third year in a row where the Tigers won their opening game.
In total, four Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) programs are in the top-25 of both polls, including three in the top-10, and a fifth is in the STATS poll. James Madison, Maine and Delaware stand with Towson in the top-25 of both polls while Villanova is now in the STATS poll. All four teams mentioned are future Towson opponents this season.
Towson has its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7 against North Carolina Central at Johnny Unitas® Stadium. To purchase or renew your season tickets or buy game tickets, calling 1-855-TU-TIGER, email
