TOWSON, MD. – The 2020 season begins for the Towson University gymnastics team as it travels to Philadelphia to face Penn on Sunday, Jan. 12. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. inside the Palestra.

New Faces
The Tigers not only have eight newcomers to the squad this year but four new coaches to add into the mix. Towson will be introducing fans to
Lauren Bolen,
Sarah Brownstein,
Paige Casper,
Logan Smith,
Amy Stewart,
Camille Vitoff,
Jenna Weitz and
Tirzah Delph.
On the coaches side, Towson welcomes back
Jay Ramirez as head coach. Ramirez added assistant
Ashley Sauer to the team. He also added Hall of famer
Kristen Presutti Callihan and former Olympian
Toni-Ann Williams to the staff.
Returners
Towson brings back four seniors (
Olivia Lubarsky,
Zoey Packard,
Melissa Temkov and
Ally Wesoly), two juniors (
Kyla Gamble and
Tess Zientek) and four sophomores (
Nikki Borkowski,
Emerson Hurst,
Jaz Kauffman and
Leah Smith) to round out the roster this year.
Last Time Out
Four Tigers were named to the All-EAGL teams in 2019. After a sixth place finish for Towson at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) last season, five student-athletes made the first or second All-Tournament Teams.
Mary Elle Arduino won beam and, with a season-high score of 9.9, earned her fourth appearance to NCAA Regionals. Joining her was
Emerson Hurst who earned a spot with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.860.
At the NCAA Regionals, Arduino had her highest finish in her career in third place, scoring a 9.9 on beam. Hurst tied for eighth place scoring 9.850.
Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
- For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season.
- Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.
- Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations.
- Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
