PHILADELPHIA- The Towson University gymnastics team opened its season defeating Penn 192.650-191.425 Sunday afternoon.
Inside the Palestra, Towson scored 48.625 on the uneven bars, 48.625 on vault, 48.150 on floor and 47.500 on beam and 38.375 in all-around.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Emerson Hurst led the way for the Tigers on vault finishing with a score of 9.750. Teammates Ally Wesoly scored 9.750, Nikki Borkowski and Lauren Bolen both scored 9.725.
- On bars, Tess Zientek scored a 9.775 finishing in first place, while Wesoly scored 9.750 and Amy Stewart scored 9.700.
- Hurst also led the way on beam for the Tigers scoring a 9.725. Paige Casper scored a 9.650.
- First time competing, Casper scored 9.725 with her floor routine. Leah Smith added to the team score earning a 9.675.
- Bolen earned a 38.375 in the all-around after scoring 9.725 (vault), 9.525 (bars), 9.550 (beam) and 9.575 on floor.

"We got the first meet under our belts and we worked out our kinks," said Ramirez. "It was nice to have a win and have the freshmen class step up for the first time. We've got some tightening up to do, but it's good to have a benchmark to start from."
