TOWSON, Md. – This weekend the Towson University women's basketball team hosts Northeastern and Hofstra in a pair of home conference games.
Both games will be played at SECU Arena and will be streamed on FloSports with
Ben Rosenbaum on the call and Rashad Christian on color commentary. Live stats will be available on TowsonTigers.com.
Friday's game is Carnival Night at SECU Arena with games on the concourse for fans to enjoy and Sunday will be the annual Special Olympics game.
Last Time Out
Towson is coming off a strong weekend on the road after collecting wins over Charleston and UNCW. On Sunday afternoon the Tigers took a dominant win over the Seahawks, a 62-41 final, after rolling out to a 17-0 lead early in the first quarter. Paced by
Kionna Jeter with 21 points and a double-double showing from
Nukiya Mayo, Towson shot 39 percent from the field through the game and held UNCW to 10 points or less in the first and third periods.
Scouting the Tigers
Kionna Jeter continues to lead the team offensively, averaging 19 points a night.
Nukiya Mayo is right there with 15.8 points per game, she leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game.
Q. Murray leads the Tigers in assists with 4.8 per game. Towson is entering the week with a 3-2 record in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and 8-8 overall, the Tigers have won their last four straight games and five of the last seven.
Scouting the Huskies
Northeastern enters the weekend with an 8-8 record and tied for first in the CAA with a 4-1 mark. The Huskies have wins over Hofstra, Delaware, Elon and William & Mary this season, coming off a 61-55 victory in Williamsburg on Sunday. Alexis Hill leads the offense with 13.9 points per game, joined by Stella Clark with 13.3. Hill also leads the Huskies in rebounds with 6.9 per game while Clark paces the team in assists with 3.2 on average. Northeastern has a strong freshmen in Mide Oriyomi and Mossi Staples who have both received CAA Rookie of the Week honors this season.
The Northeastern Series
Last season the series reached a tie of 19-19 before Northeastern took the series lead on Feb. 10 at home. The Huskies lead the series 20-19 and have won three of the last four meetings dating back to 2017. At home the Tigers lead 10-9 and won last year's meeting in SECU Arena with an 88-83 victory. Ironically enough, when Towson hosted Northeastern and won, the Huskies entered the game in first place of the CAA.
Scouting the Pride
Hofstra enters the weekend with a 3-13 mark and winless in conference action. Leading the offense is Jaylen Hines with 10.3 points per game and Ana Hernandez Gil with 10.0 per game. Hines leads the Pride in rebounds with an average of 8.1 while Ineza Sorelle leads in assists with 3.1. Hofstra has wins over Hartford, Morgan State and Campbell this season and will travel to face James Madison before coming to Towson on Sunday.
The Hofstra Series
Last year the Tigers and Pride met three times, twice in the regular season and a third time in the semifinal game of the CAA Championship. Towson has won the last three meetings but Hofstra leads the all-time series 35-33. At home the Tigers have a tied record of 17 wins and 17 losses. The last time Hofstra won on Towson's campus was Jan. 13, 2017, a 70-61 victory.

Jeter is currently fourth in the CAA in scoring (19.0 ppg) while
Nukiya Mayo holds seventh (15.8). The scoring tandem also appear in the rebounding top-10, Mayo fifth (7.6 rpg) and Jeter ninth (6.5 rpg).
Q. Murray is second the conference in assists (4.8 per game) and third in assist/turnover ratio (2.0). Mayo is ranked for a third time in blocked shots, she is third in the CAA (1.5 bpg) and
Ryan Holder is second (1.6 bpg).Jeter leads the league in steals (3.1 spg) and Murray joins her in the rankings at No. 10 (1.8 spg).

Last season
Kionna Jeter reached a peak in the top-10 of scorers nationally. Her highest position this season, the redshirt junior is 33rd in points per game (190) as of Jan. 23. She is also 19th in steals per game (2.9 avg.) 24th in steals (47), 32nd in field goal attempts (280) and 36th in free throw percentage (85.2 percent).

Tigers In The Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
