RICHMOND, Va. – Announced today by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), three members of the Towson University women's lacrosse team were selected to the 2020 CAA Preseason Team.
 
Sami Chenoweth, Olivia Conti and Kaitlin Thornton all were voted to the preseason squad. Towson and James Madison were the only two teams to have three players on the team. Also announced by the league office was the predicted order of finish, the Tigers were voted to finish third while JMU was voted to win the year and Hofstra was voted to finish second.
 
For Chenoweth this is her second preseason honor of 2020 and her second straight year appearing on the CAA Preseason list. The senior capped last season by being selected to the IWLCA All-American Third Team and setting a new team and CAA record for caused turnovers in a season. Chenoweth led the NCAA in caused turnovers in 2019.
 
Conti also collects her second recognition of the preseason and her second consecutive CAA Preseason honor. Conti will be a captain this season along with Chenoweth and Carly Tellekamp. Last season she finished with 41 caused turnovers and 39 ground balls and actually scored once, against Drexel.
 
Thornton enters her junior season with her first CAA Preseason nod after being on the All-CAA Second Team last season. In 2019 she was second on the team with 31 goals and led the Tigers in assists with 14. Thornton led the Tigers at Michigan with four goals and an assist, she was on the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2018.
 
Hofstra's Alyssa Parrella was named the 2020 CAA Preseason Player of the Year. James Madison saw the most preseason awards with five total collected, three on the preseason team and two honorable mention.
 
Chenoweth, Conti and Thornton will be with the Tigers next Saturday, opening the season at home against Penn State at noon.
