Martin Earns Preseason All-CAA First Team, Towson Picked to Finish Fourth in CAA Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – Zane Martin's return to Towson University has been noticed by the league as Martin has been selected to the 2020-21 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason All-Conference First Team form men's basketball, announced on Wednesday.

In addition, Towson is predicted to finish fourth in the CAA this season in the preseason poll, including four first-place votes.  The Tigers got a total of 230 points from the voters.

Each were announced as part of CAA Men's Basketball Media Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11th.  The preseason all-conference teams and predicted order of finish was voted on by the league's head coaches and SIDs plus members of the media.  League head coaches and SIDs could not vote for their own team.

Martin, returning to Towson with his final year of eligibility, averaged 10.1 points and 3.1 assists per contest last season with New Mexico, including 16 double digit scoring contests and earning 2020 Mountain West Academic All-Conference recognition.  While with Towson during the 2017-18 season, Martin earned All-CAA Second Team honors with 19.8 points per game, ranking third in the conference.

It is the second consecutive year where a Towson player has earned a spot on the CAA Preseason All-Conference First Team, with Brian Fobbs being on the 2019-20 First Team.

This past year, Towson concluded the year 19-13 with a 12-6 CAA record, earning a third-place finish in the conference.  It is the fourth year in the last five seasons where the Tigers earned at least 18 victories and the third time since the 2015-16 season where Towson had a top-three finish in the CAA.

Hofstra, the league's defending champion, was predicted to finish first in the league with 16 first-place votes and 290 points.  Delaware is second with 11 first-place votes and 270 points while Drexel is placed at third with seven first-place votes and 242 points.  After Towson at four, the rest of the predicted order of finish is Elon, Charleston, Northeastern, UNCW, James Madison and William & Mary.

Matt Lewis of JMU was voted the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.  Martin joins Lewis on the CAA Preseason All-Conference First Team along with Drexel's Camren Wynter and James Butler along with Isaac Kante of Hofstra.  The CAA Preseason All-Conference Second Team is Delaware's Ryan Allen and Kevin Anderson, Brevin Galloway of Charleston, Hunter McIntosh of Elon and Tyson Walker of Northeastern.

Towson's season is set to begin at the Mohegan Sun "Bubbleville," beginning with a contest in Uncasville, Conn. Vs. St. Bonaventure on Nov. 25th.
