LAST TIME OUT
Towson hasn't seen the court since a road trip to Longwood on Dec. 5 as the Tigers took a break for finals week. In their last appearance though, the Tigers scored a program record 108 points against the Lancers and saw six players in double figures. Redshirt-senior
Kionna Jeter led the way, tying her career high with 32 points. Junior guard
Shavonne Smith also had a standout appearance with her first career double-double, 23 points and 14 rebounds. The game was close throughout the first half and Towson battled to extend its lead after halftime, taking the win 108-89.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson has seen a strong start to the season with a 3-1 mark, the loss to No. 14 Maryland, 112-78, on the road. The Tigers have four players averaging double figure scoring, led by Jeter with 25.8 points per game. Smith is second on the team with 16 points a night while sophomore
Aleah Nelson is dropping 13.5 and freshman
Allie Kubek is scoring 12.5. Kubek leads the team in rebounds, she has 28 through four games, average seven a game. Nelson paces the offense with 6.75 assists per game and Jeter has a team-high 10 steals through four games. The Tigers are averaging 92.5 points per game and holding their opponents to 87.0 while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the free throw line. Towson is tied for second place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) standings, with conference play not too far ahead. Three teams in the league have a 3-1 record, Elon, Towson and UNCW, while Delaware is leading with a 3-0 mark.
SCOUTING THE SALEM TIGERS
Salem is coming to Towson with an 0-4 record after falling to Mercyhurst on Tuesday afternoon, 82-61. Leading the Tigers is Alicia Smith with 14 points per game while Nerea Arambarri-Fernandez is averaging 12.5 and Daniela Quesada is posting 11.8. So far this season, Salem has faced Georgetown (Ky.), Delaware, Norfolk State and Mercyhurst. The Tigers are averaging 63.3 points per game and shooting 31.2 percent from the field.
FIRST MEETING BETWEEN THE TIGERS
Towson and Salem have never met in a women's basketball contest. This is also the first time Towson is facing another Tiger team since the 2015-16 season when TU faced Auburn at home.
JETER'S CLIMB TO THE TOP
The milestones continue to add up for the redshirt-senior guard out of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Jeter has already received a CAA Player of the Week nod for the opening week of the season and last week was named honorable mention Player of the Week as well. Jeter is currently 10th in all-time scoring at Towson with 1,201 career points. She is sure to land further on the lists as she finishes her last season here.
TIGERS IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
Jeter remains in the top scorers in the country, currently eighth in points per game averaging 25.8.
Aleah Nelson is right in the top as well, she is ninth nationally in assists per game averaging 6.75 a night. Jeter is also 13th in field goal attempts while Nelson is 25th in total assists.
CONFERENCE STAT LEADERS
If
Kionna Jeter is eighth in the nation in points per game, you better believe she is in the top CAA scores. Jeter is second in the league, currently Jasmine Dickey is ahead of her, averaging 27.3 points per game.
Shavonne Smith appears in the top grouping as well, she is sixth in the CAA in scoring.
Allie Kubek is holding it down for Towson in the top-rebounders category, ninth in the conference, she is also second in field goal percentage in the conference. Nelson is leading the CAA in assists and has a 12-assist lead over Delaware's Paris McBride. Sophomore
Bianca Glover is eighth in the league in blocked shots, and Jeter rounds out the conference stat leaders holding eighth in steals.
SCHEDULE UPDATES
The 2020-21 season has already seen so many changes for teams across the country. Towson has updated its schedule several times and currently, after tomorrow's game against Salem, is scheduled to play Morgan State on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Saint Francis next Tuesday, also at 2 p.m. Both games are at home and will be streamed on FloSports. After next Tuesday's game the Tigers are not scheduled to play again until the conference opener against James Madison on January 1.
