TOWSON, Md. –The Towson University softball team heads back on the road for another tournament in South Carolina. This go around the Tigers will participate in the Winthrop tournament in Rock Hill.
All games will be played on Terry Field starting with Holy Cross on Friday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m.

Last Time Out
Towson won its first game of the season during the USC-Upstate tournament on Sunday, Feb. 9 defeating Saint Francis 4-3.
The Tigers scored all their runs in the fifth inning.
Lauren Ringhiser threw the tying run out at the plate to seal the deal for the Tigers.
Sara Johnson tossed six innings, allowing two runs and striking out two batters against Saint Francis.
Scouting Holy Cross
Holy Cross begins its season this weekend. Sophomore Kelly Nelson was named to the preseason All-Patriot League team.
Nelson enjoyed a great deal of success as a Crusader last year, setting the single-season program record for strikeouts with 208. She led the team with a 2.45 ERA and a .218 opposing batting average. Nelson came one shy of tying the
NCAA record for strikeouts in a game when she fanned 27 batters in a 16-inning, 2-1 win at Jacksonville, shattering both program and Patriot League records. She also threw the program's first no-hitter since 2013 in a 2-0 victory over Army.
Scouting Boston University
The Terriers defeated Sam Houston State 2-1 on Saturday, Feb. 9. After the win Ali Dubois and Aliyah Huerta-Leipner were named to the All-Tournament team.
Dubois is now the only person in the BU record book at 415 career strikeouts.
Following her RBI single, Emily Gant owns four RBIs this season after totaling six last year.
Marina Sylvestri is also having an impressive start to the year at the plate, posting seven RBIs through five games after tallying 19 total through the first 98 appearances.
Scouting Eastern Kentucky
EKU leads the all-time series 3-2. The Colonels' comes into the weekend at 3-1, after the Mercer Invitational the opening weekend. Sammi Miller led the way for the Colonels offense hitting a team-best .643 over the opening weekend.
Miller had one double and three stolen bases. Freshmen Ariyana Miranda and Isabella Gonzalez each hit the first home runs of their careers. Bethany Todd picked up two wins in the circle, going 2-0 on the opening weekend.
Samantha Reynoso went 1-0 in the circle after tossing four scoreless innings against Wright State. EKUs 31 runs scored on the opening weekend were the most runs scored in the first four games of the season since 2008.
Scouting UNC Greensboro
The Spartans fell to the Buckeyes and Gamecocks in extra innings at the Carolina Classic in Columbia, South Carolina. In a 5-4, 10 inning loss to the Buckeyes, UNCG had good control pitching and solid defense but fell to the #19 ranked team 3-2.
Alex Rodriguez made her collegiate debut throwing 3.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three in game two.
Scouting Winthrop
Winthrop fell 3-1 to Eastern Illinois in its final game of the Samford Tournament, Sunday afternoon.
Bella Roy recorded eight strikeouts pushing her season total to 14 in 9.1 innings. Ashley Westbrook extended her hitting streak to five games and Ansley Gilreath single in the second inning of the game pushed her hitting streak to four straight.
Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
- For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season.
- Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.
- Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations.
- Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
