Kidwiler Homers Against Princeton, Tigers Defeats GW in Extras

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Extra innings took place for both of the Towson University softball games Friday afternoon during the Colonial Classic.

During the first contest, the Tigers fell to Princeton 4-3 in the eighth inning then bounced back and defeated host team George Washington 3-2 in extras.

How it Happened-Game 1
  • Princeton took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • After Briana Ramirez reached base on a fielder's choice, Nicole Kidwiler had her first homer of the season and helped the Tigers take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Princeton Tigers tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second.
  • The game came down to the wire and Towson took the lead in the top of the eighth after Madison Wilson reached based and then eventually scored on a throwing error (3-2).
  • Princeton's Haley Hoffman sealed the deal after homering in the bottom of the eighth and Princeton took the 4-3 win.
How it Happened-Game 2
  • GW took the early 2-0 lead after scoring in the bottom of the third and fourth inning.
  • Towson tied the game in the top of the sixth after a fun series of event took place. First Jaclyn Mounie reached base on a double to center field. Then Chloe Poulich tripled to left center to bring home two base runners.
  • The Tigers sealed the deal in the top of the eighth after a single by Julia Smith-Harrington singled to right center advancing all the runners on base including scoring Ramirez.
Inside the Numbers
  • Kidwiler got her first homer of the season.
  • This is the third game in a row the Tigers have played extra innings.
  • Sara Johnson moves to 2-3 on the season after throwing three innings with six strikeouts. Her and Smith Harrington combined for nine strikeouts in the GW game.
Up Next
Due to temperatures tomorrow morning the Tigers will not play Georgetown. Their next game will be during the  Demarini Tiger Clash against La Salle on Friday, March 6. The game will take place at 3 p.m. inside the Tiger Softball Complex
