NEWARK, Del. – The Towson University men's basketball team ignored the scoreboard and continued attacking. Displaying pride and passion, the Tigers kept making 3-pointers, hustling and displaying their trademark grit while giving every ounce of energy they had in trying to erase a 16-point deficit.
Unfortunately, the Tigers -- despite pulling to three points on twice in the final four minutes -- eventually ran out of time during an 84-78 setback to Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest at the raucous Bob Carpenter Center Thursday night. This was Delaware's fifth straight victory.
Towson sophomore guard
Allen Betrand tied his career-high with a team-high 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting. Betrand scored on several twisting drives to the basket and sank a trio of triples after intermission.
Towson senior guard
Brian Fobbs added 19 points for the Tigers and redshirt freshman guard
Nicolas Timberlake tallied 11 points while grabbing a team best six rebounds.
The Tigers sliced a 16-point first half deficit to three with possession of the basketball against the Blue Hens. Towson missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer. With their first loss at Delaware since 2015, Towson's three-game road winning streak also ended.
