TOWSON, Md. – Brian Fobbs was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Fobbs had a strong week in helping Towson finish the regular season with a road sweep of conference regular season champion Hofstra and Northeastern. In addition, Fobbs' effort helped Towson earn the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Hercules Tires CAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Tigers will open the tournament against sixth-seeded Northeastern at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
In helping Towson finish the regular season with 13 wins in its final 16 games, the senior guard averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds while going 16-for-32 from the field.
Fobbs opened his week with a game-high 21 points in Towson's 76-65 win at Hofstra, knocking down 3-of-4 3-pointers. On Sunday, Fobbs tied for team-high honors with 18 points as the Tigers clinched the No. 3 seed with a 75-72 win at Northeastern.
He finished the season as Towson's leading scorer at 16.2 points per game, which was ninth in the conference. Fobbs was also sixth in the CAA in free-throw percentage (84.1). During the season, he scored in double figures 27 times in Towson's 31 games. He had seven games in which he scored at least 20 points. Fobbs scored a career best 33 points and made seven 3-pointers in a win over UMBC, which earned him CAA Player of the Week plaudits.
In two years as a Tiger, Fobbs has scored 1,062 points, which is 23rd all-time in program history. He's the sixth player in program history to score 1,000 points in two years for Towson.
During his career, Fobbs has started 63 games, scored in double figures 54 times and made at least two 3-pointers in a single game 34 times. He has three career double-doubles. Fobbs has a current streak of finishing with at least six rebounds in five straight games.
Towson finished the regular season with 19 victories and 12 CAA wins. Towson won seven conference road games for the first time in program history. Also during the season, Towson enjoyed a seven-game winning streak and won three consecutive (and five of six) conference contests by double digits. In nine CAA road games this season, Fobbs averaged 17.1 points and 5.2 rebounds.
