Towson Alum Smith Returns to Tennessee Titans Active Roster

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Towson University alum Tye Smith has been promoted from the practice squad to return to the Tennessee Titans' active roster, the team announced on Monday.

Going into 2020, Smith has played 28 career regular season games in the National Football League (NFL), including playing in a combined five playoff games for the Titans in 2017 and 2019.  He helped the Titans to reach the AFC Championship game in 2019.  Playing in the secondary, Smith has 47 career tackles, a pair of forced fumbles and an interception.

Smith had been on the Titans' practice squad and was moved to the active roster before Monday night's game vs. the Denver Broncos.

A 2014 All-American at defensive back, Smith tallied up 312 tackles and six interceptions in 50 games played at Towson from 2011-14.  He was part of the Towson teams that reached an FCS title game and won two CAA titles.

Smith joins Jordan Dangerfield of the Pittsburgh Steelers as Tigers currently active in the NFL.  Dangerfield is the special teams captain of the Steelers this season.

The Titans are 1-0 after Monday's win over the Denver Broncos and will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 20th at 1 p.m.
