TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team has waited a long time to play in the newly renovated Tiger Field and will get its chance in the 2021 spring campaign.
Tiger Field, an integral part of the Lower Fields Complex, saw additions of a new grandstand, press box, restrooms and a concession stand. In addition, lights have been installed for the first-ever Towson women's soccer night games at Tiger Field.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to play eight competitive matches this spring," said Towson head coach
Katherine Vettori. "I am also very proud of our student-athletes for staying focused and hungry this past year. Our staff and student-athletes can't wait to hear the first whistle in our new, beautiful stadium."
Towson will play an eight-game regular season in the spring for the first time in program history as all fall sports were postponed during the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The schedule includes a five-game league slate and three non-conference contests.
The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schedule has also switched up league competition this year with teams splitting into North and South Divisions. Towson will play in the North Division along with Delaware, Drexel, Hofstra and Northeastern.
Towson will serve as host of the spring 2021 CAA Tournament with the top two teams from each division competing. The CAA semifinal round will be on Thursday, Apr. 15 with the championship being on Saturday, Apr. 17.
Vettori, entering her third season at the helm of the Black & Gold, returns 11 players who earned multiple starts last year.
Jacey Miller earned All-CAA recognition as a freshman in the fall of 2019 while junior
Jenna Blank, 2018 CAA All-Rookie Team member, led the team with five goals in 2019.
The Tigers begin the season with a pair of road games, kicking off on Sunday, Feb. 28 at UMBC at 12 p.m. Then on Friday, Mar. 5, Towson heads north to Philadelphia to play Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m.
The first game at Tiger Field will be under the lights as Towson hosts George Washington on Thursday, Mar. 11 at 6 p.m. The homestand continues with the start of league play as the Tigers battle James Madison on Sunday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m.
Towson returns to Philadelphia on Sunday, Mar. 21 for a noon game against Drexel.
The next two games will be at home, beginning with a 1 p.m. game against Northeastern on Sunday, Mar. 28. Towson takes on Delaware to complete the homestand on Sunday, Apr. 4 at 1 p.m.
The Black & Gold head to Long Island to play against reigning CAA champion Hofstra on Saturday, Apr. 10 at 1 p.m.
