Indoor Track & Field Splits for Two Meets in Virginia

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's track and field team will split this weekend to compete in two different meets in Virginia. Some of the Tigers will head to Lynchburg, Virginia for the Liberty Elite Invitational beginning Thursday, Jan. 21.

The meet will last till Saturday, Jan. 23 inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

Other Tigers will compete on Saturday at the VMI Team Challenge in Lexington, Virginia inside the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Schools competing in the Liberty Elite include, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Delaware State, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, High Point, James Madison, Liberty and Norfolk State.

The teams participating in the VMI Team Challenge are Coppin State, Delaware, ETSU, George Mason, Louisburg, Queens, VCU, Western Carolina and Wofford.

Newcomers
The Tigers added 19 freshmen to the roster during the off season.

Last Time Out
Towson competed in the Keydet Invitational and saw three first-place finishes. Adia Cavalier won the long jump with a new personal record mark of 5.75m (18'10.50"). Georgia Coleman won the weight throw (17.63m, 57'10.25") and Shamika Burton won the 60m with a time of 7.72.

The Tigers also saw second place finishes in the high jump, 60m hurdles, 400m and 4x400m relay.

Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
Towson was on track to have its 8th consecutive year of over 10,000 hours of community service in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all activity.  Towson finished with 7,527 hours last year, good for third in the NCAA Teamworks Helper Helper competition.
Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.  Towson also won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.

Towson will travel back to Virginia to compete at VMI in Lexington, on Saturday, Jan. 30.
