TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University gymnastics team is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 31 for a tri-meet hosted by Pittsburgh. The Tigers will face Pitt and NC State inside Fitzgerald Field House at 4 p.m.

The Tigers added seven newcomers to the mix this season. Towson will be introducing fans to

Returners
Towson brings back one competing senior (
Tess Zientek), two juniors (
Nikki Borkowski and
Emerson Hurst) and five sophomores (
Lauren Bolen,
Paige Casper,
Amy Stewart,
Camille Vitoff and
Jenna Weitz) to round out the roster this year.
Last Time Out
The Tigers had the highest home opening vault score in school history in a tri-meet last Friday against NC State and Temple. Towson had a final score of 194.225 after having running scores of 48.700 on vault, 48.500 on bars, 48.025 on beam and 49.000 on floor.
Camille Vitoff debuted her Yurchenko 1.5 for the first and got a career-high scoring a 9.850, tying for second place.
Emerson Hurst got first on beam scoring a 9.800.
Sarah Girot got a career-high on bars scoring a 9.825 and junior
Nikki Borkowski got a career-high on floor scoring a 9.775.
Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
Towson was on track to have its 8th consecutive year of over 10,000 hours of community service in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all activity. Towson finished with 7,527 hours last year, good for third in the NCAA Teamworks Helper Helper competition.
Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson also won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
Scouting the Opponents
Pittsburg Panthers
Junior Katie Chamberlain and sophomore Ciara Ward each picked up event titles for the Pitt gymnastics team at the Panthers' home opener last Sunday against Kent State. Pitt finished with a score of 191.600. Chamberlain earned her second consecutive title on bars with a career-best 9.900 and Ward earned her first event title of the year with a 9.800 on vault. Lauren Beckwith anchored on beam scoring a 9.825 and Olivia Miller scored a season-high 9.800 on floor.
NC State Wolfpack
NC State won its second meet of the season last Friday posting a 194.600 in a tri-meet with Towson and Temple. On vault, Chloe Negrete put up a 9.900 to win the individual title. The Wolfpack posted a score of 48.950 with Emily Shepard scoring a 9.900. Kasey Nelson scored a 9.700 on beam and Negrete claimed her second individual title on floor scoring a 9.875.

Towson will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for a quad-meet hosted by NC State. The Tigers will compete against UNC and Pitt on Saturday, February 6 inside Reynolds Coliseum.
