Women’s Swimming & Diving Splits Tri-Meet in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Hitting the road for the first time this season, the Towson University women's swimming and diving program split a tri-meet hosted at the United States Naval Academy's Lejeune Hall.

The Tigers (2-1) took down local foe Johns Hopkins 211-83 on Friday evening, but fell 170-122 against the host Mids.

Towson swept two events, leading with a Meagan Clark, Karlee Carminati, Bridget Thomas sweep in the 1650 yard freestyle. Hailey Ritter, Ava Enriquez and Samantha Casolo followed in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1-2-3- finish as well.

All told, the Tiger swimmers and divers collected five wins, including a 1-meter dive victory from Alyssa Largay, who transferred to Towson from the United States Naval Academy this semester.

How it Happened

The Tigers led the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the grouping of Victoria Dichak, Katie Nunez, Ritter, and Maddie Mince touched in 1 minute, 46.86 seconds.
Towson's distance team went 1-2-3 in the next event, with Clark first to the wall in 16:43.72. Carminati took second in 17:04.56 with the rookie Thomas in third at 17:19.05.
Enriquez took third in the 200-yard free with a 1:55.91. Later in the meet, Nunez finished second in the splash and dash, touching in 24.22 in the 50-yard freestyle, just two-tenths of a second from first place.
On the 1-meter board, Largay scored a 278.10 to win the event, taking first place by four and a half points.
Nunez followed her 50 free with a second-place finish in the 100-yard free with a 52.24, out-pacing Navy's third-place finisher by half a second.
IN the following event, the 200-yard backstroke, Suzannah Mills finished second in a tight race, touching in 2:05.72, nearly out-kicking Navy's Elly Deas's time out 2:04.13.
Clark again showed her distance chops, taking second in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:02.92, more than five seconds ahead of third place and within a stroke of first.
Then came the Tigers' sweep of the 100-yard butterfly, led by Ritter's scorching time of 55.82, nearly two seconds faster than teammate Enriquez, who finished second in 57.02. Casolo was in one second later at 58.00.
On the 3-meter board, Largay finished second with a total score of 260.03.
Mills came back to win the 400-yard IM, capping her effort in 4:33.50 to win by almost two seconds.
The Tigers capped the day with a first and third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group of Mince, Nunez, Ritter and Parker Schulz took the win with a 1:36.78 while Enriquez, Clark, Julia Ali and Shay Walker finished third in 1:39.11.
