Volleyball Draws Penn State in Opening Round

TOWSON, Md. -- After waiting over a week following its third-straight CAA Championship, the Towson University women's volleyball team learned its next opponent Sunday night during the NCAA Women's Volleyball Selection Show on ESPNU.

The Tigers will have a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Tournament Second Round as Towson takes on Penn State at the University of Pittsburgh.

Towson and the Nittany Lions will clash on Friday, Dec. 3 at Pitt, the three-seed for the Tournament. The winner of Towson-Penn State match will face the winner of No. 3 Pitt and UMBC on Saturday.

The Tigers and Penn State last met in 2019 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The host Nittany Lions topped the Tigers 3-1 at Rec Hall.

Towson has won three-straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament Championships and will play in its second NCAA Tournament this calendar year. Towson earned the automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Tournament after hitting a reverse sweep as the top-seeded team in the league tournament, falling behind 2-0 against No. 2 Elon before running off three-straight set wins.
