TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team is ready to build upon the successes of last year, announcing its schedule for the 2022 season.
Towson will play 27 home games at the friendly-confines of John B. Schuerholz Park. All games are free to attend for the public.
In 2021, Towson earned a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament for the first time since 2013 with a second-place finish in the CAA Northern Division. Under head coach
Matt Tyner, who enters his fourth season with the program, the Tigers also had their winningest season since 2014 last year.
"We put this schedule together a while ago, anticipating the development of our program," said Tyner. "Now it's game time…we'll be tested early and often. I can't wait to see how we handle the travel, opponents' level of talent and overall grind of these 56 games. I believe this team has the makings of something special; let's talk in May!"
Towson's season begins with a return to 2021 NCAA Tournament participant Miami, Tyner's alma mater and an opponent in 2020, for a four-game series. The season begins on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Feb. 19 and a 1 p.m. game on Feb. 20.
The team heads to another baseball powerhouse the following weekend, going to LSU to play a couple of 2021 NCAA Tournament teams. Towson plays a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 25, playing Southern at 1 p.m. ET then host LSU at 7:30 p.m. ET. Towson then returns to Tiger Stadium to play Southern on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET and LSU on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. ET.
Following a mid-week game at George Washington on Mar. 1 at 2:30 p.m., Towson again heads south for a three-game series at UNCG. Game times are set for Mar. 4 at 4 p.m., Mar. 5 at 2 p.m. and Mar. 6 at 1 p.m.
The home opener vs. UMBC on Mar. 8 at 2 p.m. will kick off an eight-game homestand at Schuerholz. The Tigers host Fairleigh Dickinson that weekend, with games set for 2 p.m. on Mar. 11, 1 p.m. on Mar. 12 and 1 p.m. on Mar. 13.
