Women's Basketball Looks to Get First CAA Road Win at Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The Towson University women's basketball will look to continue its five-game hot streak with a pair of games on the road against Northeastern.  

Tipoff for both games in set for noon in the Cabot Center and will be available to stream on FloHoops.  

The Tigers currently rank second in the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) with a 10-3 (5-1 CAA) record while the Huskies are ninth in the league and own a 3-10 (2-8 CAA) mark on the season.  

LAST TIME OUT (Feb. 10) 
Towson earned an 84-73 victory over James Madison in a midweek contest on Wednesday afternoon to earn their fifth straight win at home in SECU Arena. Kionna Jeter (31) earned her second consecutive +30-point performance and fourth of the season. The senior guard also added four rebounds, three assists, two steals and shot 46.2 percent (6-13) from 3-point range. Aleah Nelson (13), Shavonne Smith (10),  LaKaitlin Wright (9) and Allie Kubek (8) also contributed to the team win. Nelson earned a game-best six assists. Wright and Kubek tied for a team-high eight boards each. The Tigers scored 26 points off the fast break, allowing no points from the Dukes in the category. Towson leads the nation in transition points with 34.3 points per game through their first 12 contests. 

SCOUTING THE TIGERS 
Towson will look to get its first conference road win of the season against the Huskies. The Tigers have the second highest scoring offense in the country and first in the CAA with 88.2 points per game. Jeter, who was named a semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, leads Towson's offensive attack with 26.4 points per game to rank second in the nation. Towson is one of the only two programs in the country to rank top-5 in scoring offense and have a player sit inside the top-5 in points per game, with the other being Caitlin Clark of Iowa. The Dawn Staley late season watch list honoree is also eighth in the country in 3-point field goals per game (3.31). Nelson is currently sixth in all of Division I basketball and first in the league in assist per game, averaging 7.0. In addition, Smith leads the CAA in field goal percentage with 54.6 percent from the floor.  

DYNAMIC DUO 
Towson is one of two programs in the country to have a player rank inside the top-10 in both points (Jeter) and assists (Nelson) per game. Nelson has assisted on 33 of Jeter's field goals this season, resulting in 85 points. The bond has strengthened during league play, with 22 assisted field goals and 57 points. The Hawkeyes are the only other program in the country to sit top-10 in both categories. 

THE NORTHEASTERN SERIES
(Huskies lead 21-20) 

Northeastern leads the close all-time series between the two programs, 21-20. The last four games have been split, with two Tigers' wins and two Huskies' wins. Northeastern has won six of the last eight meetings between the two teams dating back to 2017. 

LAST TIME AGAINST THE HUSKIES 
Despite a 34-point second half push by Towson, Northeastern came out on top during the last contest on Feb. 23, 2020 with a slight 66-63 edge. Jeter led scoring with a game-high 26 points while Nukiya Mayo added 12. Wright grabbed a game-best 11 off the glass.  

LOOKING INTO NORTHEASTERN   
The Huskies are coming off four consecutive losses, two from Drexel and Delaware, apiece. Northeastern saw its last action against Delaware in a 65-59 loss to the Blue Hens. Mide Oriyomi dropped her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The Huskies shot 48.9 percent from the floor including 36.8 percent from beyond the arc.  
 
JETER MOVES TO FOURTH 
Kionna Jeter is currently at fourth overall on the Towson University women's basketball all-time scoring list. The Spartanburg, S.C. native has 1,441 career points. Next on the list is Danielle Barry with 1,555 points.
