Swimming & Diving Host Mount for Home Meet

Off the Blocks
It's senior day and the penultimate dual meet of the 2020-21 season for the Towson men's and women's diving programs. The swim teams will hang at home for a dual against Mount St. Mary's while the divers head south to Harrisonburg, Virginia.

In The National Rankings
Neither Towson's men nor the women are currently mentioned in the CSCAA Coaches' Polls. Loyola was similarly not mentioned in the poll released February 11.

The Briefly Home Tigers
Towson's swimming and diving teams have been inching their ways back home, starting the season in Annapolis (46 miles) before swimming and diving at Loyola (4.3 miles) two weeks ago. This weekend's action at Burdick Pool will be Towson's lone home event of the year. The Tigers conclude the regular season at Delaware next weekend. Both programs are coming off a win over Loyola. The men won a thriller that came down to the final events for a 157-143 decision while the women's side handled its business for a 180-120 win of the Greyhounds. Nick McClure won two events (200-yard butterfly, 100-yard butterfly) and was on the the winning 200-yard medley relay. Rookie Brian Benzing was just off his record pace in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 54.93 for the win. Will Canny won the 3-meter board and took second in the 1-meter, edged by teammate Ajani Dorner, who finished third in the 3-meter event. Elise Devlin led the women's side with individual wins (200-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke) with Karlee Carminati winning the long distance events. Hailey Rittertook first in the 50-free and the 100-fly as well. Tina Coleman continued to control boards, winning both the 1-meter (262.49) and the 3-meter (259.87). Sarah DiGaetano finished second in both diving events as well.

Scouting Mount St. Mary's
Both Mount St. Mary's men's and women's swimming and diving teams are coming off losses at Loyola. The men dropped a 189-73 decision while the women were topped 197-75. Saturday's matchup at Burdick Pool will be the second meet of the season for Mount St. Mary's swimming and diving. The Mountaineers round out the regular season on March 6 with a trip to Lexington, Virginia to face VMI. The 2020-21 Northeast Conference (NEC) championships will be held in Geneva, Ohio on March 28-April 2.

Despite being an hour apart, Saturday's meet will be the first-ever clash between Towson men's and women's swimming and diving and the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's.

Weekly Honors
For the dozenth time, Towson senior diver Will Canny was selected as the CAA Men's Diver of the Week. The league office made its announcement Wednesday morning.

Canny finished second on the 1-meter board as the Tigers (1-1) edged Charles Street rival Loyola 157-143 on Feb. 6. The Havertown, Pennsylvanian scored a 265.27 on that board, the fourth-best score in program history. Later in the meet, Canny captured the 3-meter board title with a 293.70, the third-best score on that board in program history.

Duke Dog Diving Invite
On Saturday, Towson's divers will make their way to Harrisonburg, Virginia for the annual Duke Dog Diving Invite, hosted by James Madison University. Saturday's diving event will be held at Savage Natatorium and kicks off at noon.

Men's divers Will Canny and Ajani Dorner will be competing.

Women's divers include: Tina Coleman, Sarah Digaetano, Ashley Sinicropi, Fiona McIlmail and Lucy Saper (1m only).

With Wins Saturday...
- Towson's squads would pick up back-to-back victories for the first time since both best Loyola and Delaware to round out the 2019-20 dual meet calendar.
- The women would win their fifth-straight meet in Burdick Pool, dating back to the 2018-19 season. Towson's women went 3-0 at home last season.
- Towson's women would be perfect at home for back-to-back seasons.
- The men's team would win its third-straight dual meet at Burdick Pool. The Tigers went 2-1 at home last season.
