RICHMOND. Va. – The Towson University softball team was selected to finish third in the northern division in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) standings in the preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches, league officials announced Thursday.
In the North division, Delaware collected four first-place votes for a total of 22 points, while Drexel received three first-place votes and 18 points, while the Tigers earned the final first-place vote and 16 points. Hofstra came in last in the North while JMU was first in the south division.
Towson has earned a CAA Tournament berth in six of the past seven seasons and will be looking to add to that total. Back to lead the Tigers is
Madison Wilson, who earned 2nd team All-CAA honors in 2019 and drove in a team-high 11 runs in 15 games in 2020.
Lauren Ringhiser got off to a hot start a year ago, batting .378 in 14 games.
Last season ended abruptly due to Covoid-19 but the Tigers had won their last four of five games and finished the season with an 8-7 record.
This year's regular-season will consist of an 18-game divisional conference schedule. The 2021 CAA Championship will be hosted by JMU at Veterans Memorial Park. The five-team, double-elimination tournament is scheduled for May 12-15.
