TOWSON, Md. – Kionna Jeter has been selected as one of 30 female candidates from across the country for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award. Eligible candidates excel in the four areas of Community, Classroom, Character and Competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
From the field of 30 female candidates, 10 will be selected by a committee later this month. Those 10 finalists will put on a nationwide ballot to determine the winner. Fans in addition to media and coaches will have the chance to vote to decide the recipient.
Jeter is currently in the midst of a career season. The Spartanburg, S.C. native is averaging 26.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.3 rebounds per game. The senior guard's 26.0 points per game ranks third across all of Division I basketball. She is also shooting 46.1 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from beyond the arc and 82.2 percent from the charity stripe this season.
Jeter was named CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Preseason Player of the Year in addition to winning three conference Player of the Week honors throughout the season so far. She was also named to the Dawn Staley late season watchlist.
Off the court, Jeter takes an active role in the community as she is involved in supporting various autism organizations, the Special Olympics, Team Up 4 1 Foundation, Middle Grades Partnership, various food drives and going on school visits. She also participated in the department-winning 2018-19 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service National Championship.
The Senior CLASS Award female winner will be announced at NCAA Women's Final Four this spring.
