Field Hockey Opens 2021 Spring Season At Home Against Syracuse

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team will open up its 2021 spring season against Syracuse on Sunday, March 14 at 12 p.m. 

The game will be streamed on the Towson Sports Network. 

This contest will mark the first of three consecutive home games for the Tigers, with the team set to welcome Delaware on March 19 at 3 p.m. and La Salle on March 21 at 11:30 a.m. 
  
2019 RECAP
Towson ended the 2019 season with 3-16 (0-6 CAA) record. Georgia Beachley led the team with eight goals as well as contributing three assists. She had two game-winning goals, one against Georgetown and one against Temple. The sophomore was named CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Rookie of the Week once (Oct. 15) and earned an All-CAA Rooke Team selection. Beachley finished in the league's top-10 in both goals scored and game-winning goals. Samantha Aljets paced the Tigers with six assists while also adding seven goals. On defense, Kasey Bubel recorded a team-best 3 defensive saves. Returning goalkeeper Camille Pottillo has four saves and a win during the three games played in the 2019 season. Senior Beira Ho was also named to the All-CAA Second Team after scoring one goal and assisting on four.  

NEW FACES
Towson's 2021 spring roster welcomes seven freshmen in addition to the 21 returning student-athletes. Sunday will be the first time in Black and Gold for Lyndsey Olzacki, Kaiya Townsend Sabur, Tori Raulen, Annie KeeleMorgan Bomberger, Lydia Miller and goalkeeper Peyton CrawfordLena Vandam, a graduate student transfer from Rider University, is another new face in goal this season for the Tigers.  
  
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse ended its fall season with a 5-4 (3-2 ACC) mark. The duo of Charlotte de Vries and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof were selected to the 2020 ACC Championship All-Tournament Team after The Orange lost to UNC in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Syracuse opened its spring season at Saint Joseph's with a 4-1 win to give The Orange their current overall record of 6-4. Lauraiosi Graziosi is the leading goal-scorer through the fall season Syracuse with four goals. The Orange finished the 2019 regular season ranked No. 14 in the nation.  
  
THE SYRACUSE SERIES
Sunday's contest marks the first meeting in the history of the two programs.
