TOWSON, Md. – The freshmen of the Towson University women's soccer team continue to impress as two rookies have been selected for Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) weekly honors.
Riley Melendez repeats as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, earning this honor last week as well, while
Alexandra Rush is the latest CAA Rookie of the Week. Rush is the first Towson player to be CAA Rookie of the Week since
Lindsey Pazdziorko was on Sept. 16, 2019.
The pair earn weekly honors after Towson battled to a 1-1 draw on Friday at Atlantic-10 opponent at Saint Joseph's as the Tigers remain unbeaten through two games.
Melendez stood in goal for all 110 minutes in Friday's draw, saving five shots in the contest, including an important close range block in the first overtime. Through two games, the freshman keeper has 13 saves and one goal allowed for a 92.9% save rate and a 0.41 goals allowed average.
Rush got her first collegiate start on Friday in the Tiger midfield, scoring Towson's first goal of the season in the 32
nd minute on a 20-meter shot inside the left post. She led Towson with three shots in the game, including one hitting the post in the second overtime.
Melendez, Rush and the Tigers open at home on Thursday, March 11 at 6 p.m. vs. George Washington at Tiger Field.
