TOWSON, Md. – On Tuesday, the Towson University gymnastics team junior Emerson Hurst earned weekly awards from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). Hurst was named Specialist of the Week for the first time this season.

Hurst tied teammate Allison Zuhlke for first place on beam with a 9.850 last Friday in a tri-meet at Temple. The Tigers finished the meet in second place scoring a 195.550.

Scoring a 9.975 on beam, Hurst posted the highest score on the event in team history. She won the event outright and led the Tigers to a 49.050 on the event. She received a perfect 10.0 from one judge. She also made her season-debut on floor, scoring a career-high 9.800 to lead Towson to a 49.025 on the event in a dual meet at George Washington. The Tigers finished with a score of 195.050 last Sunday.

Other award winners include, Ariana Castrence from Temple as Gymnast of the Week and Kendall Whitman from George Washington was named Rookie of the Week.

The Tigers are back home hosting George Washington and Temple on Friday, March 12 for the 'Pride' meet. The meet is scheduled to begin inside SECU Arena at 6 p.m.
