TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University track and field team will compete in the Virginia Challenge this weekend, April 16-17 hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. The meet will take place at Lannigan Field.
Some of the Tigers will also compete at the Hopkins/Loyola Invite in Baltimore, Maryland at the Johns Hopkins/Loyola University Field.

Last Time Out
The Tigers split in two as the team competed in the Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T State University and the Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
At the Aggie Invitational,
Crystal Johnson qualified for the 100 dash finals after recording a new school record time of 11.50. In the finals she ran a time of 11.66.
Sydney Tucker,
Shamika Burton, Johnson and
Satori Valentine won the 400 relay with a time of 46.46.
At the Mason Spring Invitational,
Hayley Horvath won the pole vault with a 3.93m (12'10.75") mark. The 4x400m relay team comprised of Tiyuana Evans,
Liana Wilkinson,
Ariana Poteat and
Trinytee Jacobs finished in third with a time of 4:07.88.
CAA Awards
- Lauren Coleman was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Athlete of the Week on March 17 for her performance at the UNCW Invitational. She was victorious in the shot put and had a third-place finish in the hammer throw. In the shot put, she recorded a conference leading mark of 15.52m (50-11).
- Hayley Horvath was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week on March 24 after setting a Towson program record in the pole vault at the Bob Davidson Memorial Invite. She vaulted 4.13m (13-6.5) which is the top mark in the conference this season by 0.31m.
- Crystal Johnson was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week on April 7 after placing first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.66, the fastest time in the CAA this spring. Additionally, it ranks 41st in the NCAA East Region and 75th in the country.
- Johnson also anchored Towson's 4x100m relay team that won and established the top mark in the CAA with a time of 46.27.
- For a second consecutive week, Johnson was named CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week on April 14 after she sprinted her way to a Towson program record in the 100m dash with her time of 11.50 at the 2021 Aggie Invitational. The time ranks first in the CAA this season while sits 28th in the NCAA East Region and 48th in the Nation.
- Kayla Thorpe was named the CAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week on April 14. Thorpe won the javelin at the George Mason Spring Invitational launching the javelin 47.10m (154-6). The throw gives her the best mark in the CAA this spring by 1.85m while it ranks 34th in the NCAA East Region and 66th nationally. Thorpe also placed fourth at the meet in the shot put with a mark of 13.21m (43-4.25).
Tigers in the Community
- The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
- Towson was on track to have its 8th consecutive year of over 10,000 hours of community service in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all activity. Towson finished with 7,527 hours last year, good for third in the NCAA Teamworks Helper Helper competition.
- Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson also won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
