Towson Tennis Falls to George Washington

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University tennis had two chances at earning the doubles point, but George Washington rallied to take a tiebreaker in the deciding match. The Colonials then won three singles matches to win the match, 4-0, on a windy Friday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex.

The No. 3 doubles team of Amelia Lawson and Lea Kosanovic won its match 6-2, but the Colonials took the other two matches to earn the point. Towson's No. 2 duo of Sarah Pospischill and Jessica Assenmacher led 6-5 and was serving for the match. Towson had two match points before GW won the game to force a tiebreaker. Alexis Nelson and Lindsay Thompson won the tiebreaker, 7-5, to earn the doubles point.

GW then had straight set victories at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 1 singles to close out the match. The only Tiger up in her match was Alexa Martinez at No. 2. The senior took the first set, 6-3, and was leading 3-1 in the second when play was stopped after George Washington reached four wins.

"I know if we win that doubles point that singles goes a little differently," said head coach Jamie Peterson. "I don't know if we are going to win the match, but that loss took some steam out of us. We were in position to take a 1-0 lead. It would have but a little more pressure on them."
