Dover, Del. – E.C. Hill has been named the new head coach of the Delaware State women's basketball team as announced Friday morning. Hill will be replacing David Caputo who was with the team since August of 2018.
"E.C. Hill made a definite mark on our program and our players here at Towson," Tigers' head coach Diane Richardson said. "I know that she will use all of her attributes to build a successful program at Delaware State."
Hill makes the move after joining Towson in June of 2019 as an assiatnt coach. She garnered 27 wins during her two seasons with the team in addition to 17 wins in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
"I just want to say thank you to Coach Rich, the administration, the players and everyone in the Towson family," Hill said. "I am excited to move onto Delaware State as the new head coach and I know everything I learned at Towson will help me in this new position."
During her time at Towson, she worked primarily with the guards, guiding many student-athletes to success. She saw Q. Murray set the single-season assist record with 151 helpers her first season with the team.
Hill also helped Kionna Jeter remain a top-three scorer in the conference and among the best in the nation for her final two seasons. Jeter became the first Tiger to earn All-CAA first team honors in three consecutive seasons. She was also a two-time All-CAA Defensive selection and the 2020-21 CAA Preseason Player of the Year. The guard went on to become the first player in program history to get selected in the WNBA Draft, as she was chosen 36th overall by the Las Vegas Aces.
Hill played a key role in developing sophomore Aleah Nelson in her first season in black and gold. Nelson averaged 6.5 assists per game to rank eighth in the nation and first in the conference. She also accumulated 130 total helpers to finish the season as 15th in the country and first in the league. In addition, Nelson averaged 13.5 points per game.
Prior to her two-year stint at Towson, Hill also spent time at Montverde Academy in Florida, the University of Arizona, Robert Morris College and her alma mater, Northern Illinois.
Following a very accomplished collegiate career at NIU, Hill played for two teams in the American Basketball League, with the New England Blizzard from 1996-98 and the Chicago Condors from 1998-99. In the WNBA she played with the Charlotte Sting in 2000, the Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 and the Orlando Miracle in 2002. Hill also played in several cities in Europe.
With an abbreviated season due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Hornets finished with a 3-12 record in addition to earning two victories in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.
