INDIANAPOLIS -- Heading into the 2021-22 academic year at Towson University, redshirt sophomore women's volleyballer Asia Goins has been selected to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Goins, who serves as a defensive specialist/libero on the back-to-back CAA champion volleyball team, will represent the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for the national committee. Goins is one of 25 student-athletes on the NCAA Division I SAAC, with one student-athlete representing each Division I conference at the FBS, FCS and Division I level. 

"To represent Towson and the CAA at the highest level for sports is a tremendous opportunity that I am excited to take on," said Goins. "This will allow me to continue to voice the work I have been doing with the CAA and Towson on a national level, It's very rewarding to highlight all of the input from each athlete in our conference and I hope to continue the growth we have all been working towards."

Goins, who hails from Zionsville, Indiana, is one of five women's volleyball players on the 2021-22 NCAA Division I SAAC, including four indoor volleyball student-athletes. She is the first Towson student-athlete to represent the CAA on the NCAA Division I Committee since Kate Williams (Field Hockey) during the 2013-14 academic year.

The NCAA Division I SAAC's mission statement reads as follows: The mission of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by protecting student- athlete well-being, fostering a positive student-athlete image and inclusive student-athlete environment, and promoting student-athlete engagement at the national, conference and local levels.

During her time at Towson, Goins has been active in several student-athlete groups, including Towson's SAAC and the CAA Family United for Change efforts. Additionally, Goins is one of the founding members of TUAIDE (Towson University Athletes for Inclusion, Diversity and Education).
