PLL Camp/Week One Summary

BOSTON -- Week one of the Premier Lacrosse League is in the books and two former Towson University men's lacrosse standouts had strong showings in the opening pair of games.

Former captains Ryan Drenner and Zach Goodrich both suited up for Cannons LC. After training camp, another former captain, Brendan Sunday, was moved from the Atlas LC Training Camp roster back into the player pool.

Below is a summary of each players' weekends at Gillette Stadium.

Ryan Drenner (Cannons LC)
Making his debut with the Cannons LC after spending his first two PLL seasons with the Whipsnakes LC (2019) and Waterdogs (LC), Drenner potted three points in the Cannons' 11-10 loss to Redwoods LC. The Westminster, Maryland deposited two goals while adding one assist in the league's opener Friday night. In the Cannons' second game of the weekend, Drenner scored once against his former team, Waterdogs LC, as the Boom Squad moved to 1-1 on the season with a decisive 13-7 win.

Zach Goodrich (Cannons LC)
A year removed from winning the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) title with the Boston Cannons, Goodrich picked right where he left off with the PLL's newest expansion team of the same name and head coach, Sean Quirk. The third-year pro added an assist in his debut game against Redwoods LC in an 11-10 loss. He added two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. In Sunday's 13-7 win over Waterdogs LC, the Stevensville, Maryland native grabbed another two ground balls while forcing one turnover.

Brendan Sunday (Atlas LC)
Brendan Sunday was present for training camp in Foxborough, Massachusetts, working with Atlas LC. The Poughquag, New Yorker did not make the Atlas LC roster and was moved to the player pool for potential selection by another club.

This Week's Schedule
Cannons LC plays once this coming weekend at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta. Drenner will have another crack at revenge as his current squad takes on the two-time champion Whipsnakes LC. Game time is set for noon on Saturday, June 12.

After playing extremely clutch lacrosse in the PLL's first season, Drenner helped guide the Whipsnakes to the inaugural title. He was later put in the Expansion Draft prior to the 2020 bubble season in Utah.
